One trick we use when we provision for the summer cruise is that we take a sharpie and make the tops of all can goods with their name. This way, when the cans are stored into the lockers, which on our IP35, are behind the settees, we can read what the cans are.

We tend to store all our canned goods into the settee backs on starboard were we can store enough food for 2 months easily. This trick of writing on the tops of the cans has worked out well.

Dear Ladies & Hayden,
Can anyone help me with how to provision for a 4 month cruise to the Bahamas? I know there will be grocery stores, but I'm told they are really expensive. I would like to purchase as much here as I possibly can. I have provisioned for a 4 week trip before. But 4 MONTHS is a really long time. Also, how/where do/would you store it? We have a 37', however, my other half has his boat stuff in a lot of lockers. I am limited to the port settee back & either the cabinet near the fridge or the one beside the sink. I'm talking about food, not booze, that is be another topic. If you stack the cans how do you keep them from falling or rolling around? Do you leave your box food in the boxes or transfer it to another container, if so, what type of container.
Do you cook meals all/most of the time? Are they like home (full blown meals) or different (lighter/less fancy)? If different, how so?
I'm sorry this is a lot of questions. I hope someone out there can give me some help!
Thank you for your help!!

-Anita

Your reply here would have and should have been a NEW TOPIC. we were talking about marking your can goods with a marker so you can tell what you have in the lockers.

We store easily 2-3 months of food on our IP35 in the side settee backs. It is easy to provision for months, as long as you plan on using cans, mixes, dried goods, and your own baking. We pack frozen chicken and precooked ground beef and onions is seal a meal bags of 1 lb for freezing. We use these in stew and chili.
